How we check

Korea App Desk is written by a small team in Korea. We read the Korean-language help centers, notices and press releases of each service — the places where rule changes are announced first — and write down what they mean for a visitor in plain English.

Every line has a status. Confirmed lines come from an official help page, notice, government page or the service's own press release. Lines marked Reported come from a news report and haven't appeared in an official notice we could find. Lines marked Not confirmed are things we looked for and couldn't verify. We'd rather say we don't know than guess.

Each line also has the date we last checked it. A script opens the official pages we cite once a day (respecting their robots.txt) and flags any page whose text has changed, so we can re-read it. It only stores a fingerprint of the page, not the page itself.

We don't explain workarounds that involve someone else's phone number, name or account, fake numbers, or anything else that breaks a service's terms or Korean law. If a service doesn't work for visitors, we say so and point to the official alternative.

Some pages may include partner links, for example to a tourist SIM. Those are always marked at the top of the page, they never change what we write, and an app's status in our tables doesn't depend on any partner.
